History

Van Steenderen MainportLawyers was founded on 1st January 2006 by three former NautaDutilh lawyers with front-line conflict management and litigation skills obtained in hundreds of cases dealt with before High Courts and Appellate Courts in the Netherlands, as well as in domestic and international arbitration.

Arnold van Steenderen(1953) has given his name to the new firm. He maintains a strong record as a maritime and commercial lawyer, domestically but also in the international scene. He  started his professional career in 1976 as a trainee-lawyer  with Nauta Lambert Blussé, a predecessor of wellknown big firm NautaDutilh. In 1983 he became partner in the Shipping department  of that firm and in 2000 he became head of the Shipping practice at NautaDutilh, employing 30 lawyers. Setting up a boutique lawfirm acting on behalf of clients in the Shipping, Logistics and Energy industries had been his dream for many years.

The start-up of the new firm went smoothly. As The Legal 500 puts it: "Boutique firm Van Steenderen MainportLawyers has continued to impress clients with its work in the maritime sector, having worked on a number of high-profile cases. The highly specialised team of Arnold van Steenderen, Marieke van den Dool and Jasper Groen boasts first-class capabilities in casualty and marine accident cases, shipbuilding and conversion, offshore projects, and port services among other areas".

On 1 January 2009 the firm was further strengthened by the arrival of Arnold Stendahl. He specialises in Insurance law and he now heads the dry Insurance & Liability practice of our firm.
