Jasper Groen (admitted 2000) specializes in general dry shipping work, including port-related matters. He is working for a wide range of Rotterdam-based clients, e.g. freight forwarders, ship agents, stevedores, terminal operators and ship suppliers. Jasper has also vast experience in international trade disputes relating to i.a. transfer of title, right of retention and documentary credits, in both international litigation as well as in arbitral proceedings.
Jasper has a special focus on the energy and renewables industry and acts for oil majors and traders in this field. From there it is a small step to the offshore work Jasper is involved in. Trading in LNG and biofuels and the capture and distribution of carbon dioxide (CO2) has his interest.
Jasper joined the Shipping Department of NautaDutilh in 1999 after graduating from the Leiden University. In 2004 he completed a postgraduate course on Transport Law at the Grotius Academy.He became a (founding) partner of Van Steenderen MainportLawyers in December 2005.
Jasper is a member of the Rotterdam Bar, the Netherlands Maritime & Transport Law Association, the Netherlands Association of Transport Lawyers and the International Association of Young Lawyers (AIJA). Since 2008 he is lecturing at the Netherlands Maritime University, part of the Dutch 'Scheepvaart en Transport College'. Jasper has worked on a number of cases involving maritime accidents (Hanjin Pennsylvania, CMA CGM Claudel).
