Lloyd’s List - CO2 carbon capture and storage
The European Union has set aside hundreds of millions of Euros to subsidise the capture and geological storage of carbon dioxide. It is all part of the European Commission’s Climate Action to reduce the emission of green house gases. However, what it gives with one hand, it takes back with the other. This conclusion is drawn by Jasper Groen on basis of the CCS Directive (2009/31/EC), in his article that was published in Lloyd's List on 22 June 2011 (link).

Van Steenderen MainportLawyers on TV
RTV Rijnmond-23 April 2009: In the series about port related companies ("Ik ziet de haven al") Van Steenderen MainportLawyers featured as maritime service provider.
Most prestigious niche firm of the Netherlands
On 20 March 2009 Van Steenderen MainportLawyers was awarded the first price for the most prestigious niche firm of the Netherlands. This price "De Gouden Zandloper" is awarded on a bienal basis to lawfirms that stand out in their profession. We quote from the jury report:
"This was the category with far and away the most entrants. The quality of the entries was high, which is why the jury would firstly like to give a few words of appreciation to those firms that (just) didn’t make it.
(…)
Now for the winner: Rotterdam’s Van Steenderen MainportLawyers. This firm serves clients in shipping as well as energy and offshore. Furthermore, the firm is also involved in an advisory capacity concerning ship financing. This niche – maritime practice – is certainly not new, but the way in which MainportLawyers has managed to hold its own internationally in this highly competitive market is impressive. This certainly applies to the list of projects on which the firm has worked over the past few years. In choosing Van Steenderen, the jury also wishes to relay another message. It is becoming increasingly commonplace for large firms to reject the less lucrative fields of law. This applies, for example, to family practice, but it is without any doubt also true of maritime practice. To take an example, this involves areas of the law where the returns are less sizeable than in M&A. However, law firms such as Van Steenderen MainportLawyers show that these fields can be operated profitably and innovatively. The jury holds in high esteem the entrepreneurship demonstrated in this regard".
